Niantic has announced three new features that will be coming to Pokémon Go this year. These new features could revitalize the whole game and get players that have dropped the game back into it. One of those features will be an all-new revamped gym system, which is greatly needed. The other two will be trading and PVP. New details have come out about how trading will work.
For those of you hoping you will soon be able to compete your Pokédex, don’t get too excited about trading. When I first heard it was going to be one of the new features added this year I thought, “YES FINALLY I CAN GET KANGASKHAN!!!” Turns out, that’s not actually the case. It seems that trading won’t be online, rather it will be done locally with players in your vicinity. So, unless you have friends in different countries and they are willing to travel to trade with you – don’t look to be able to complete that Pokédex legitimately just yet.
Here are the official words from Senior Product Manager Tatsuo Nomura from GDC 2017:
“You shouldn’t be able to exchange your Pokemon with someone who is 100 miles away from you,” he commented.
“We’re still trying to come up with an answer [to trading] that makes sense so it doesn’t kill the game,” he added
“If we fail this, we can easily kill the game.”
No firm release date has been confirmed for trading, or the other two features either. We will keep you updated as we hear more!
