Pokémon Go On Apple Watch – Alternative to Pokémon Go Plus

It’s the holiday season and we know many of you Pokémon trainers are still in search of the Pokémon Go Plus hardware. Whether it be for yourself or someone special for the holidays, they just so dang hard to find. If you get lucky, you may be able to find one in a store but that’s almost like trying to find the Golden Goose. Niantic is working on an alternative for the hard to find Pokémon Go Plus, albeit a more expensive option – the Apple Watch.

Despite certain websites going into a frenzy reporting that the Apple Watch version of Pokémon Go had been cancelled – it seems that’s not the case as the official Pokémon Go twitter account just posted this later yesterday.

If Pokémon Go for the Apple Watch is indeed “coming soon”, they couldn’t have released it at a better time than now. With the release of the Gen2 Pokémon babies and the full release of the entire Gen2 Pokémon roster not far off…this could be a Godsend for those unable to find the Pokémon Go Plus device. While the device most likely won’t change the gameplay in any fundamental way, it will definitely help those looking to hatch eggs as they are walking around.

The Apple Watch version of Pokémon Go will let you collect items from PokéStops, gives XP and fitness data, shows you how many steps to hatch your eggs, and shows nearby Pokémon. However, it doesn’t let you capture Pokémon – at least it won’t as of launch. This could be something Niantic may added later with an update, but don’t count on it for launch.

We will keep you updated on everything Pokémon, including when the Apple Watch version will release – as soon as it is announced. Stay tuned!
